Sherlock Fic Idea - Fingers Delay

youlighttheskyfanfiction:

I was suggesting this to ineffableboyfriends earlier but… what if Sherlock literally became John’s shadow?

There’s this world see, where we have shadows and they aren’t just spots where light doesn’t touch. A shadow is a representation of how much time we have left, how much of our lives we can live.

Children often have the darkest shadows, full of potential and brimming with long lives. Those have light grey shadows or almost none at all are shunned or met with pity. There’s almost no point, by society’s standards, in bothering with these children because they’ll die anyways.

And yet… and yet…

Some speculate that a shadow is the place where our souls reside because there are cases where some humans have no shadows and yet they live. These humans are avoided. Rumours are told of them. Shadowless people are unstable, unnaturel. They could drop dead at any moment. There is something not right about them…

John Watson doesn’t have a shadow, not after Afghanistan. His therapist and those that knew him are convinced that he’s going to die at any moment when he comes back to London. He’s not sure how long he has left either.

But he meets Sherlock, who doesn’t care that John doesn’t have a shadow. Sherlock who still has a long black shadow, plenty of time left.

They go on adventures. They have the time of their lives, running from death and ignoring the gaping emptiness when they stare at Sherlock’s lone shadow. Even though Mycroft warns Sherlock about John, even though people avoid them even more when John is with them, they continue on.

There are several close calls, where John is sure that his heart almost stops, wavers. But he doesn’t tell Sherlock. He won’t. Not about the dreams of other people’s shadows coming to get him, of a man laughing and claiming to have eaten John’s shadow.

But Sherlock knows. Sherlock always knows and he plans, he researches everything he can about shadows, about shadow eaters and other creatures… he’s determined to solve the case of John Watson (and maybe then, he can keep him.)

He doesn’t have time to complete his research because of Moriarty, because of the fall. And then he dies.

John wakes up from his faint to discover that he has a shadow, Sherlock’s shadow. And not only that… ittalksto him.

But no one else can see it.

(“Am I going mad, Sherlock? Am I? Is this what happens to shadowless people?” John asks.

“Don’t be silly,” he responds, “I gave it to you. This. Myself. I’m your shadow now and I’ll never leave you.”)

They have no idea the consequences of what they’ve done, of the insanity their minds will suffer now.

(Because the shadow eaters are coming and the spider still lives.)

holy shit can this be a thing?! please?!

The Most Beautiful Object on the 221B Set

If you follow me, you know how obsessed I am with the binoculars on Sherlock’s desk. I’ve managed to acquire 2 pair— both from Paris. It turns out that they were designed in 1897 by León Bloch who in 1912, with Edmund Bloch, invented “Le Sherlock Holmes,” a stealth camera disguised as a small briefcase!

León Bloch later sold the Mars binoculars by subscription as part of his Viallis package. The lenses of the pliable Mars binos were snapped in place on a box which was a stereoscopic camera, as well as a viewer for both stereoscopic glass slides, and paper cards.

A prestigious London firm, Leuchars & Son sold the French-manufactured Mars binos (called La Jumelle “Mars” in adverts) in the UK. Their storefront was located in Piccadilly until 1902.

I ADORE the crew of Sherlock!

This is amazeballs!
